AHHH! One of my favorite professors from Elon, Drew Perry, just published his first novel: THIS IS JUST EXACTLY LIKE YOU. I have to admit, I haven't had a chance to read it yet. But I can't wait. Tim O'Brien (!) reviewed it and said, "I found myself spellbound, turning pages well past my bedtime. What a fine, fine book." How cool is that?
I highly recommend anything from Drew. He's already published some short stories, which I loved, notably in the 2004 edition of New Stories from the South.
Oxford American and GoTriad also raved about his book, the latter quoting Drew's wife Tita saying, "He's the writer so many of us want to be."
As if it couldn't get any better, Drew did a reading last night at Elon. Oh how I wish I could have gone! One of my other favorite professors, Kevin Boyle, wrote an E-net posting to advertise Drew's reading. I miss Elon and these professors and learning in that environment immensely. I want to be an undergrad again.
To learn more about the book, buy a copy or see Drew along his 'tour', check out his website*: http://www.drewperry.net/ or his facebook fan page!
*It's crazy to me that he has a website AND is on facebook. This is someone who didn't own a cell phone and swore he never would. He probably still doesn't.
