MIA

First off, apologies that my postings have been sporadic lately. The past two weeks have been hectic. I was watching tennis, lots and lots of tennis. Thank you, Australian Open! My daily schedule was completely turned around. Live coverage was shown from 8:00 pm-1:00 am, so I was staying up into the wee hours of the morning to see the completion of matches. I saw some truly great tennis and was happy to be able to view it.

This past weekend I sacrificed seeing the men's and women's final to chaperone the ski trip for the youth at my church. I've been volunteering with them for about a year and a half and it's always an adventure. This year, one of the senior boys asked one of the junior girls to prom by skiing down the slopes with the help of four friends carrying signs that spelled: P-R-O-M-? Adorable.

I think I need to clarify "ski trip" for those of you who grew up outside of the midwest. We go to Wisconsin (oh yes, Wisconsin) to ski. Alpine Valley claims that it is a resort, but I beg to differ. In fact, it used to be a landfill that they covered with dirt and then snow. Upon arrival last year I asked Neal, my then-fiance, if he had black diamond skiing skills. His reply: "I do here."

However, it's only two hours away from Chicago and the youth always have a good time. And this year we were injury free. Really, it couldn't have been worse than last year when three kids broke their arms. But with the youth at my church, you just never know.

After a weekend away with 31 middle and high schoolers, I am glad to be back to my bed, in my child-free home. Ahh, bliss.

  1. Oh my gosh, what a great way to ask a girl to prom! I love it. Peter and I get to chaperone his high school's prom this spring -- I am SO EXCITED to see the awkward dancing.

  2. That sounds AWESOME! It was a really cute idea. Apparently it's the 'thing' at this HS to go all out when you're asking someone to prom
