Last Friday marked the start of Awards Season. The Critics Choice Movie Awards kicked it all off, on VH1? Regardless, I have never watched the Critics Choice Awards before, but Kristin Chenoweth was hosting and I love her. Plus, it was the first I would see of all the buzz surrounding movies this year.
Turns out, I love you Kristin Chenoweth, but I don't love you hosting. Maybe it was the writers, but her jokes never really drew more than nervous or pity laughter. And she was mostly awkward. Nevertheless, it was awesome to see a female director take the big directing award - congrats Kathryn Bigelow. And even more awesome that it's possible to have a tie for best female performance. Way to go, Meryl & Sandra!
Watching the Critics' picks made me excited for the Golden Globes. I rarely agree with movie critics and seriously questioned some of their picks for these awards - Best Acting Ensemble for Inglorious Basterds? - but it was kind of nice to see people win that probably won't take the bigger awards at the Golden Globes and Oscars - Sandra Bullock for the Blind Side. I love you but the Academy seems to love Meryl more. So congrats to all you winners!
