This past Sunday was the juggernaut we call The Golden Globes. That's right people, TV, Movies and even made for TV movies were honored. They call the Globes the 'biggest party in Hollywood.' Everyone seems to drink too much, which isn't exactly the best idea since half are presenting and/or nominated. And all the women have 3+ inch heels. But hey, who doesn't like to see a drunk celebrity or two?
Although I enjoyed the awards, I think they have a few things to fix before next year.
1. Ditch Ricky Gervais. He was abysmal and not remotely funny. He also took a big dig at Sir Paul McCartney. Not cool.
2. Please Globes organizers, inform all the nominees how to approach the stage from their assigned table. The viewing audience will thank you. Sure, 80% won't need the information. However, if I have to see 25 people mouth "How do I get up there?" and look lost among a sea of tables next year, I'll be really annoyed. Also, it makes the announcer say awkward things to fill the 5+ minutes it takes to make it to the stage.
3. What's up with the different time allotted to certain winners to give their acceptance speech? Meryl Streep had about 10 minutes to go on and on about her dead mother and kind of made no sense for about 1/3 of her speech. Meanwhile, the winning writers (original & adapted screenplay) had all of 30 seconds? What gives? Mo'Nique wasn't cut off after thanking the Mary Jones' of the world. By the way, wasn't Mary Jones the villain in Precious?
Congrats to Sandra Bullock for a well-deserved win for best actress in the The Blind Side. I'm not sure she'll win at the big show, the Oscars, but I was excited for her. I'm also glad that Jeff Bridges won over George Clooney for best actor in a drama. George is a good actor, but he basically played a jerk in Up in the Air. Not exactly worth a win at the Globes. Now only if we can keep this momentum until the Oscars, which reminds me:
Dear Hollywood,
Please, please, please have someone awesome host the Oscars. Remember the days when Billy Crystal sang medleys about the five Best Picture nominees? Ahh, those were the days.
Love,
Bryn
