Isn't the green river fun? I haven't ever actually seen it in person in the five March's that I've lived here. But I'm making it a goal to see it next year. Little known fact: the City of Chicago dyes the river green on the same day they host the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade is held the Saturday before St. Patrick's day, or on the day itself, if it falls on a Saturday. So the river is rarely ever green on St. Paddy's day. It's still a fun, and slightly kooky, tradition.
Here's hoping you have a great St. Patrick's day and a toast to you with your favorite beverage!
