Newlywed Hell

Neal & I are probably the last people without a DVR. I really want one, but it's hard to find good, permanent deals with the cable/internet companies. And we don't need one, it would just be nice. Thanks to Comcast's 'on demand' feature, we find plenty to watch. And we can catch up on shows when we miss them during the week.

Monday nights, though, there's really nothing on. That's when a DVR, with saved programs, would be really spectacular.

So last night, Neal & I were enjoying some dessert and in an attempt to put something on I turned it to MTV's True Life. The episode was about Newlyweds, so I thought it was so very appropriate. It featured two couples whom hadn't lived together before they got married.

One couple had been dating long-distantly for about 3 years before they got married. Then the wife moved to her husband's city, and apartment, after the wedding. But they sure didn't speak much before the wedding because she didn't know that he was over $5000 in debt! I couldn't believe she didn't know that before they got married.

The other couple was extremely conservative and they saved their first kiss until the wedding day. She planned to be a stay-at-home wife. But then she got bored and wanted to get a part time job. But she felt she had to ASK her husband if that would be all right. And it gets worse, before he agreed, he asked if his work load around the house would increase if she got a job. He didn't do anything around the house! And though I hate to say it, it got even worse because after he 'agreed', she said thank-you, because I guess it was his final decision? Good grief.

That show made me sad. I think we just jumped back in time to 1959.
